There are issues to consider when choosing Ceramic or Porcelain floors.
Porcelain, natural stone and slate may require a seal once fitted and periodic DIY maintenance to stay in top condition.
They are porous and if not treated properly may show signs of soiling. Even with proper maintenance, it is possible they may permanantly stain.
Ceramics are generally less expensive and have a non porous glazed surface, so will not require any sealing or periodic maintenance. However, it is possible the glaze can wear or crack over the years. The glaze and the design on the surface might also be damaged from impact of sharp or heavy objects.
Labour costs are sometimes the largest expense associated with a tiled floor, but it needs to be first class. We are duly proud of all of our flooring fitters and their skill and attention to detail in their specific fields.
One thing to bear in mind with a cheap floor tile is tolerances tend to be less strict and the sizes of the individual tiles can vary greatly. This is highlighted once grouted to show a more irregular uneven line and can be detrimental to the appearance of the floor. With a quality tile, tolerances are tighter so any irregularities will be minor and less evident once fitted.
